Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice developed in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui, based on the concept that a practitioner can channel universal life energy — rei (universal) and ki (life energy) — through their hands to support the recipient's own healing processes. Sessions are performed with the client fully clothed, lying on a massage table. The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above specific positions on the head, torso, and limbs — positions that roughly correspond to the body's major energy centres (chakras) and organ systems.
